What’s the History behind Nutrabaits and why is it such an important brand?

Nutrabaits was established in 1986 by two of the carp world’s most passionate and dedicated anglers, Bill Cottam and Tim Paisley. The brand was built on an ethos of quality and every ingredient used within the product range was painstakingly researched and included solely for meaningful reasons. The end result being a range of baits that set new standards both in terms of quality and effectiveness. It would be no exaggeration to say that Nutrabaits changed the view of commercially available carp baits forever…

In the first two years of trading Bill was working as a swimming pool attendant and sports coach and processing orders for the fast-growing bait brand in his spare time. In 1988, Bill left his job and put his heart, soul and every hour the carp gods sent into growing Nutrabaits. The brand actually grew beyond Bill’s wildest dreams and set new standards. Most who lived through the era would be inclined to agree that the launch of Nutrabaits set a precedent that lead to the multi million pound industry the bait world is today.

At this present moment, the brand has a distributor network that pushes our product into over 50 countries across the globe and reaches out as far as Japan, Kazakhstan, China and even Israel! Quite impressive, right?

What’s so good about Nutrabaits?

Well, for starters, the extensive range of ingredients and raw materials that make our finished products within the range have been carefully selected and sourced from high quality suppliers that share our ethos and vision to supply the very best quality available, irrespective of what else is happening in the bait market.

Interestingly, Nutrabaits went out on something of a limb in the early days and began to list all the ingredients used in their baits on the product packaging; this caused something of stir within the industry and a twenty five year old Bill actually received a telephone call from a then competitor suggesting that such a policy would be destined to bring the company to its knees within months.

Over thirty years on and we’re still going strong with all our ingredients openly visible on our packaging for all to see, in fact, our new style packaging now brings even more clarity and openness to the bait market. We ensure all of our products are aligned with Animal Health and DEFRA guidelines, all relevant Nutrabaits products now come part and parcel with the ingredients used, including an analytical break down, suggested inclusion rates and recommended instructions for use.

Okay, so the bait is really nutritional, but does that mean it will catch carp?

Yes, of course. The raw materials and nutritional value that goes into our baits is what makes them so good. Carp recognise our baits as a nutritional food source and keep on coming back for more.

Here’s a bit of a background story to some of our baits that gives you a clear insight as to just how effective Nutrabaits is…..

Some of the major milestones for Nutrabaits in its history was the launch of Big Fish Mix, Trigga and Trigga Ice. In the years of testing prior to launch and up to the present day, these baits have arguably accounted for more big fish across the globe than any other on the planet.

Alongside Trigga, there are a number of other historic carp-catching baits that have built a legacy in their field, such as Tecni-Spice, Cream Cajouser and Blue Oyster. All of these household sub-brands have accounted for numerous captures of some of the finest big carp across Europe and to this day they are regarded as some of the best baits the industry has ever seen.

If you don’t believe our words, just ask the good people at Carp-Talk for some copies of their magazine surrounding the launch of Trigga and I assure you’ll be astonished as to just how many big fish threw themselves on the bank when it first came to market. It was a phenomenon that swept the entire scene, Big Fish were caught all over the world and the anglers’ that caught them knew what was doing the business!

How does Nutrabaits know that the bait is going to catch fish and provide the average angler with exceptional results?

We were the first bait company on the scene to actively put products through a field-testing process prior to them being released on general sale. We have never made any secret of the fact that little of what we have been able to achieve since the formative years of the company, wouldn’t have been possible without our time-served team of anglers who are happy to sit behind baits of unknown potential for hours on end in order to enhance our research and development aims. Ongoing ground work and research of this nature ensures we only release meaningful, highly effective products along with accurate suggested inclusion rates and recommendations for use.

Many members of our field testing team have been with us since the early days of the company and have remained loyal to the brand despite ongoing approaches from some of our competitors; none of them get paid to go fishing and all of them continue to use Nutrabaits products purely because they understand that they cannot be improved upon.
