Black Pepper and Asafoetida

Black Pepper

Many years ago I mixed together two essential oils that created a very good attractor which soon became adopted by many of the then Nutrabaits users. However, like most things in life anglers forget or move on to the next fashion. I have always maintained that this combination is probably one of the all time greats and never fails if applied correctly. It is a combination of 8 drops of Black Pepper and one drop of Asafoetida used at that level per 500g of dry mix. Its best used in conjunction with a long life bait like BFM, but I know anglers that have used it in low food value mixes and done equally as well.

When the time is right

Adjust your baiting levels to the time of the year

I have always been an advocate of using high nutritional value baits. If these are used and applied correctly they will always bring long term success. A simple tip especially when you are on a tight budget is to only use them when the conditions are right. Most high nutritional value baits are nutritionally unavailable to carp when their core body temperature falls below 8 degrees. However, their digestive system starts to become less effective when ambient water temperatures fall below 18 degrees, so by adjusting baiting up levels according to lake water temperature you can prevent wasting bait and valuable cash.

What a bind

Specialist Carpet Feed makes a good binder

I am a great believer in ground bait in its many forms. It’s the only substance I know that Carp never under any circumstances view with suspicion. They either eat it or ignore it completely. The secret to making effective ground bait is to make sure they don’t ignore it and start feeding on it instantly. I have used all manner of substances from herbs to liquid food additives, but one aspect you have to get right is binding. Having a ground bait that won’t hold together is very difficult to use, but I have found by using Nutrabaits Specialist Carpet Feed or SCF Method Mix at a ratio of 1:2 you can just about bind anything.

Pepper n' Cream

Caramel Cream with Black Pepper oil

I’m not a great lover of artificial flavour on there own. I generally use them with some natural additives like essential oils.

One of the best combinations I’ve every used is Black Pepper Oil and Cream or Caramel cream flavour. For the very best results with this combination make sure the flavour is on an Ethyl Alcohol base.
