Glugged Baits

By Brian Skoyles

Brian Skoyles with a nice common

On many waters, carp can come out to a variety of baits and presentations. The trick is selecting the right presentation for the day in question. In cold water conditions I’m a great fan of single (or double) high attract hook-baits. It has the advantage of putting loads of “eat me” signals in the water, without reducing your chance of the fish sampling your hook-bait.

These days making an effective glug is simplicity itself, just follow these three easy steps.

1) Take a pot of Trigga Ice Bait Soak Complex and a bag of Trigga Ice ready-mades. Put a handful of the readies into the pot till they appear just above the level of the soak. Put the top on firmly and shake thoroughly. Leave for a few days, or weeks, or months.

2) Over time the soak will thicken, and coat the boilies. The perfect coating is like a melted Malteser. They are messy to put on the hair but who cares ….. the carp love them.

3) I really like doubles for this type of fishing. I don’t really understand why but fish seem to find them more attractive (perhaps just greed), and you usually get very reliable hook-holds on doubles. Ready to go. A high attract Trigga Ice double …. Glugged and ready!

Trigga Ice glug Leave for a while Perfect coating

The Trigga Ice glug is one of the best I know for creating the superb sludge that really sticks to the boilies, but thinner glugs that soak into the boilies can be just as effective. Two of my reliable favourites are …

Summer glug -Try 100mls Bait Soak Complex and 10mls Cranberry Nutrafruit as the glug. Take a small screw-top pot and three quarters fill with Cranberry ready-mades. Pour in the flavoured glug, so the glug comes about half way up the pot. Screw on the top and give it a good shake. After a few days the ready-mades will have soaked up a lot of the glug, darkened slightly, and be perfect high attract baits.

Winter glug - Prepare in the same way, but try 100mls Bait Soak Complex and 10mls Sweet Nutraspice as the glug. Coupled with some Tecnispice ready-mades the bobbins will be flying in even the coldest weather.
