Big Fish Boilie Tactics
By Bill Cottam
Pellets, bag mixes and particles undoubtedly have a huge part to play in the modern day carp scene, but it is an indisputable fact that a boilie-only approach gives you a much better than average chance of being successful with the bigger fish.
I suspect that, due to my job, I probably speak to more carp anglers in a week than many of you will in six months and, after a while, a definite pattern begins to emerge. Nutrabaits customers who buy only boilies and apply them sensibly appear to catch more than their share of big fish!
It is difficult to be sure whether big fish have a preference for a boilie-only diet, or whether the bigger fish have grown to such a size because they eat predominantly boiled baits. It's a bit of a chicken and egg thing!
To be perfectly honest, I do not care which way round it is - I only know that if I am trying to be selective in terms of the size of fish I am trying to catch, I am better off using just boilies.
The only slight downside to this approach is that you do have a tendency to catch fewer fish but personally I have never had a problem with waiting for the biggies to come along.
